Understanding Migraine: Do You Have These Symptoms?

Jun 24, 2015

Millions of people suffer from migraines daily. Migraines are severe headaches, pulsating on one side of the head. Symptoms vary from one person to another, and physical activity can make the pain worse at times.

Here are some of the symptoms that indicate you might have a migraine.

1. Changes in Mood

Perhaps you start to feel depressed or sad for no reason at all. That could be a sign that you have a migraine. Research has shown a link between depression and migraines; severe depression can lead to chronic episodes of migraines.

2. Trouble Sleeping

If you have trouble to fall asleep, or you’re tired after waking up, those are signs that you may have a migraine. There is a link between lack of sleep and the intensity and frequency of migraines.

3. Sinus Problems

Many people who suffer from a migraine complain of sinus problems, such as a stuffy nose, nasal drainage, or even tearing. Migraines can also cause sinus headaches.

4. Neck Issues

If you start to feel pain in your neck, and that’s followed by a headache, it’s possible that you are in the early stages of getting a migraine. One common neck issue during a migraine is a sharp pain in the back of the neck.

5. Nausea and Vomiting

Studies have shown that people who have frequent migraine related nausea may experience more pain, and will get less relief from medication than those who do not have nausea.

6. Sensitivity Issues

People suffering from a migraine may prefer to stay in a dark and quiet place. Bright lights and noise may make the migraine worse and cause more pain, or in some instances trigger another migraine after it has stopped.

7. Activity

Daily activities like walking may cause pain if the migraine is severe enough.
